Basic Education and Literacy is one of Rotary’s key Areas of Focus. Across the world, Rotary works to strengthen basic education and literacy, enhance the capacity of teachers and educators, and expand opportunities for young people through education, leadership development and personal growth.
Rotary’s Youth Programs also place strong emphasis on developing Leadership Skills, Communication, Confidence, and a Service Mindset, empowering young people to become active and responsible members of their communities.
As we discussed during the program, Education is not simply about studying textbooks in a classroom or achieving good grades.
Education is the foundation that prepares a person for life.
It begins from the earliest stages of childhood. We need to think about how we nurture positive habits from birth, how we inspire children to love and appreciate languages, and how we help them develop the ability to think critically, learn independently, solve problems and adapt throughout their primary and secondary education.
More importantly, instead of asking only,
“What do we want our children to become?”
we should also ask,
“What do they want to become, and what are their strengths, talents and abilities?”
Our role is to guide them in discovering their own potential.
As children progress through education, they should have opportunities to gradually discover their Talent, Interest, Character, Life Skills and Career Path.
In today’s rapidly changing world, education is no longer only about preparing young people to find a job after graduation.
We must also help them think about:
What new careers and opportunities may emerge in the future?
What opportunities can they create for themselves?
And how can they become creators of value rather than simply seekers of employment?
Therefore, Education is not the responsibility of parents alone, nor teachers alone, nor schools alone.
It is a shared responsibility and a collective effort involving:
Parents + Teachers + Schools + Communities + Students themselves.
Together, we must build an education ecosystem that prepares the next generation for the future.
Our goal should not be simply to educate a child, but to nurture a person who can:
* Build and shape their own life;
* Make informed choices about their future and career;
* Develop their own potential and independence; and
* Create meaningful value for society.
We believe that when individuals progress and succeed, families become stronger.
When families become stronger, communities become stronger.
And when communities become stronger, the human capital, knowledge and capacity of a region and a nation become stronger.
Therefore, Shaping the Future Through Education 2026 was not simply a program to discuss education.
It was an opportunity to share ideas, perspectives and commitments about how we can work together to shape a better future for the next generation.
On behalf of the Rotary Club of Metro Yangon, we would like to express our heartfelt appreciation to all the Speakers, Partners, Supporters, Teachers, Parents and Participants who contributed their time, knowledge, resources and valuable support to make this program possible.
