Chronic kidney disease is becoming an increasingly important public health challenge in Myanmar. Several factors can increase the risk of developing kidney disease, including diabetes, high blood pressure, obesity, smoking, excessive salt and sugar consumption, physical inactivity, the inappropriate use of medications that may harm the kidneys, and the lack of regular health check-ups.
The encouraging news is that many of these risk factors can be reduced through public awareness, healthier lifestyle choices, early detection, and timely medical care. By promoting prevention and encouraging people to take proactive steps to protect their health, we can help reduce the burden of kidney disease on individuals, families, and communities.
Guided by the principle that “Prevention is Better Than Cure,” the Rotary Club of Metro Yangon (RCMY) is committed to launching a Community-Based Kidney Disease Prevention Program. While supporting patients who require treatment remains important, we believe that preventing disease before it develops is one of the most effective ways to create sustainable, long-term impact.
Through this initiative, RCMY aims to:
Promote public awareness of kidney health and disease prevention.
Encourage early screening for individuals at higher risk.
Inspire healthier lifestyles that reduce the risk of chronic kidney disease.
Connect those in need with appropriate healthcare services for timely diagnosis and treatment.
Our long-term vision is to help reduce the number of people who progress to advanced kidney disease, lessen the financial and emotional burden on families, and contribute to healthier, more resilient communities.
At the Rotary Club of Metro Yangon, we believe that lasting impact begins with prevention. By working together with healthcare professionals, partner organizations, volunteers, and the community, we can protect lives, improve well-being, and build a healthier future for generations to come.
Together, through prevention, partnership, and service, we create lasting impact.
