Kidney disease affects far more than an individual’s health—it places a significant emotional, social, and financial burden on entire families. For many patients, long-term dialysis is not only a medical necessity but also a life-changing challenge that impacts every aspect of daily living.

Families often find themselves making unimaginable sacrifices. Many are forced to sell their belongings, take on debt, reduce household expenses, or give up educational opportunities for their children in order to continue life-sustaining treatment. The impact extends beyond the patient, affecting the well-being and future of the entire family.

While supporting access to dialysis remains critically important, we believe that preventing kidney disease is equally essential. Promoting public awareness, encouraging healthy lifestyles, and increasing access to preventive health education are long-term investments that can reduce the incidence of kidney disease and improve the quality of life for countless individuals.

When fewer people develop chronic kidney disease, fewer families face the financial and emotional burden of lifelong dialysis. Prevention not only protects individual health but also contributes to stronger families, healthier communities, and a more sustainable healthcare system.

This belief has strengthened the commitment of the Board of the Rotary Club of Metro Yangon (RCMY) to pursue initiatives that balance prevention and treatment. Guided by Rotary’s motto, “Service Above Self,” and this Rotary Year’s theme, “Create Lasting Impact,” we are dedicated to developing sustainable projects that not only provide support for those living with kidney disease but also help prevent future generations from facing the same challenges.

At RCMY, we believe that the greatest impact comes not only from helping people recover, but also from empowering communities to stay healthy in the first place. By working together with healthcare professionals, partner organizations, and the wider community, we can build a healthier future for all.

Together, through prevention, compassion, and collaboration, we can create lasting impact.
