Rotary Club of Metro Yangon (RCMY) is closely monitoring with deep concern the severe flooding situation in Laymyethna Township, Hinthada District, Ayeyarwady Region, where the Ngawun River embankment has been weakened and water has begun seeping into surrounding areas, putting communities across the township at serious risk.
RCMY would also like to acknowledge and express its sincere appreciation to the local communities and responsible authorities who have been working tirelessly throughout the night to reinforce the embankments, prevent further breaches, and minimize the impact of the flooding.
During this difficult time, one of the most urgent and essential needs for flood-affected communities is access to safe and clean drinking water.
In response, Rotary Club of Metro Yangon, in line with Rotary’s guiding principle of “Service Above Self,” will provide emergency assistance to flood-affected communities in Laymyethna Township as soon as possible. This support will include emergency clean water solutions through the Clean Water Project, including water purification equipment, to help ensure that affected families have access to sufficient and safe drinking water during the crisis.
RCMY extends its heartfelt wishes to all families and communities affected by the flooding. May everyone remain safe and protected, and may the situation improve as soon as possible.
