“I had to stop my cancer treatment because the money was needed for my wife’s dialysis. I can still endure my illness, but I couldn’t bear to watch her suffer when she couldn’t receive the dialysis she desperately needed.”
These heartfelt words touched everyone in the room.
During our visit to the Karuna Pala Dialysis Foundation, we met patients and families whose stories revealed the immense challenges they face every day—hardships that cannot simply be measured in numbers.
We met families who had sold nearly everything they owned just to afford dialysis treatments for a loved one, leaving little for their daily living expenses.
We met hardworking individuals who carefully set aside a portion of their monthly salaries, sacrificing their own needs so they could continue life-sustaining treatment.
We met patients who continued working tirelessly to support their families while quietly enduring the physical and emotional burden of kidney disease.
Behind every patient is a story of resilience, sacrifice, hope, and unconditional love for their family.
Listening to these stories reminded us that beyond every medical condition is a human life, a family, and a future worth fighting for. It also inspired us to ask ourselves an important question:
“What more can we do to help?”
Guided by that question, the President and Board Members of the Rotary Club of Metro Yangon (RCMY) met with the Board of the Karuna Pala Dialysis Foundation to explore opportunities for meaningful collaboration.
Inspired by Rotary’s motto, “Service Above Self,” and this Rotary Year’s theme, “Create Lasting Impact,” both organizations discussed the development of a sustainable initiative that will provide long-term support for kidney patients and their families.
We believe that lasting change begins with compassion, grows through collaboration, and becomes possible when organizations unite with a shared purpose.
At RCMY, we remain committed to working hand in hand with our partners to bring hope, improve lives, and create lasting impact for those who need it most.
Together, we serve. Together, we create lasting impact.
